Peter Polak, Constantin Kletzer and Karina Hellbert of the Viennese law firm Fiebinger Polak Leon Attorneys-at-Law (FPLP) have successfully advised the globally active and leading US chip supplier Qualcomm Inc. on founding its first European research center.

Qualcomm Inc. founded its research center based on state-of-the-art technology acquired from an Austrian research team. This augmented reality technology enhances perceived reality when using mobile end devices by using digital information and it was developed in collaboration with the Graz University of Technology. It has great potential in both the gaming market and marketing. Qualcomm will invest significantly in Austrian research and the development of this technology over the long-term at its new Austria Research Center, acknowledging in the process the country’s research expertise.

The entire deal, including all aspects regarding corporate law, intellectual property rights and legal issues concerning grants, was promptly tied up for Qualcomm by Fiebinger Polak Leon Attorneys-at-Law.

“This unusual transaction required consultation from a cross-section of areas. The proven expertise of our law firm in tackling complex deal structures and our know-how in the areas of modern technology and intellectual property rights, combined with experience in academic environments, were the reasons behind the mandate and they enabled us to complete this deal both promptly and efficiently. We are happy to have been able to support Qualcomm Inc. in taking this decisive step,” said Peter Polak, Constantin Kletzer and Karina Hellbert, the leading FPLP partners in this deal.
