Schnitzel overkill

Wiener Schnitzel is a very thin, breaded and deep fried schnitzel made from veal. It belongs to the best known specialties of Viennese cuisine and is the national dish of Austria.

At the Schnitzelwirt it’s all about our famous “Wiener Schnitzel”. In 1982, they celebrated their 10 years anniversary, when they offered Schnitzel for free. As hundreds of hungry Viennese started fighting for their Schnitzel, 25 persons were arrested.
Other places to go for a Schnitzel are Figlmüller (who name themselves “The Home of the Schnitzel”) and Plachutta, both easy to find in the city center of Vienna.

Beautiful view – Belvedere

The two magnificient palaces on the Belvedere grounds lie in the middle of a splendid park. They were constructed for Prince Eugene of Savoy by J.L. von Hildebrandt, a famous Baroque architect. The Palaces' architecture and interior design are typical for Rococo style.
The Marble Hall is the most magnificent room in the Upper Belvedere; its balcony affords perhaps the most famous view of Vienna, known as the Canaletto view.

The Belvedere Palace today houses Austrian art from the Middle Ages to the present day. At the Upper Belvedere you can find inter alia the world's largest Klimt collection including  his golden paintings "The Kiss" and "Judith".
In the Lower Belvedere you can visit Prince Eugene’s apartments and staterooms and, in summer 2015, the special exhibition “Klimt and the Ringstrasse”, which is dedicated to those charismatic painters of the Ringstrasse who exercised a profound influence on their time. Reconstructions of entire decorative ensembles show visitors the dazzling lifestyle of the Ringstrasse era. The exhibition will also show works by the young Klimt that have not yet been seen by the public.

Stilwerk

Designed by star architect Jean Nouvel, the Stilwerk Vienna (Praterstraße 1, 1020) is home to around 30 design shops, the luxury Sofitel hotel and two restaurants (the steak house "El Gaucho" and the gourmet restaurant "Das Loft").
In this spectacular, 18-storey building rising next to the Danube Canal design lovers will find everything the heart desires: furniture, living accessories, gifts items, fabrics, entertainment electronics, lighting and fashion. Famous brands - from Thonet Vienna and Wittmann to Villeroy & Boch - are represented here.

The building is also worth a look: The "Light ceilings" by Swiss artist Pipilotti Rist create extraordinary accents. Each of the exterior façades has a different color, depending on the direction it faces and the time of day.
In the inner courtyard is a special kind of artwork: The Green Wall by Frenchman Patrick Blanc is a 600 square meter steel construction, on which around 20,000 different plants form a heavenly, vertical city garden.

Kunsthistorisches Museum (Art History Museum)

The museum counts among the world’s major art collections boasting a collection of outstanding classical works (Raffael, Tizian, Rembrandt, Dürer, Breughel and Velazquez)

The Kunsthistorisches Museum (Art History Museum) was built in 1891 near the Imperial Palace to house the extensive collections of the imperial family. The architectural mirror image of the Kunsthistorisches Museum is the Museum of Natural History on the opposite side, which was also built according to designs by Gottfried Semper and Karl von Hasenauer.

Besides the paintings gallery, the museum also houses the Egyptian and Near Eastern Collection, which contains fascinating treasures from mysterious cultures long past.Another part of the museum, the Kunstkammer Vienna (Chamber of art and wonders), opened again in March 2013 and shows rarities from the former treasure chambers and cabinets of curiosities of the Habsburgs. The collection is one of the most significant of its kind in the world and displays precious artworks from the Middle Ages, the Renaissance and the Baroque era.

Augarten

This little oasis in the second district indeed offers a weird mixture. As you pass the old walls surrounding the pretty baroque park, you’ll soon notice one of the two so called “Flaktürme” – huge towering bunkers. These towers were military defense towers in the 40′s and as they can’t be destroyed, they are still some bleak (but important) reminders of the Second World War. Nowadays joggers, couples, families and dog owners in need for a walk use the park.

Furthermore, a museum in the former imperial pleasure building in the Augarten illustrates the history of Viennese porcelain from its beginnings to today. It shows a range of representative examples from the founding of the first porcelain factory in Vienna in 1718 by Claudius Innocentius du Paquier until the Vienna Augarten Porcelain Factory was founded at its present location in 1923 and took up the heritage of the imperial factory.
The designs of Augarten porcelain have been created in cooperation with notable artists ever since the manufactory first opened its doors. Artists of all epochs have designed masterpieces - the spectrum ranges from Baroque to modern over more than 25,000 products. The elegant porcelainware can be purchased in the store of the porcelain manufactory or at the flagship store in Vienna city center (1010 Wien, Spiegelgasse 3).
